TO EDUCATE          SEPTEMBER 2015 MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT

Despite the continuing warm days, the reality that summer has passed is not lost on anyone. Although we will miss summer fun, we know that each September signals an opportunity to begin another school year with energy and enthusiasm for educators with a passion and dedication for learning. During July and August, administrators continued their work preparing facilities, hiring staff, and developing goals and initiatives to guide our students in their quest to become lifelong learners. Much has been accomplished and we are excited to welcome students and staff back to our schools. Here are a just few noteworthy items to review as we begin the 2015-2016 school year:

laptop  At MPHS, we’re excited to begin our 1:1 Technology Resource: Chromebook program for students in grades 7-12. Each student will be provided with a Chromebook as a tool for learning, one which we are confident will improve engagement, facilitate independent inquiry, and provide greater opportunities for teachers when crafting instructional design. We’re planning a Chromebook Information Parent Night for October and we hope to see many of you there.

test  The state’s public education learning standards and education reform efforts implemented in recent years continue to be topics of strong interest for educators and families. PARCC testing is moving into year two and questions concerning test administration, the validity of the results, and opt-out issues are important points of discussion. For more information, the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) website offers a FAQ guide on the issue: http://www.state.nj.us/education/assessment/PARCCFAQ.pdf

New Finally, each district school has some new and noteworthy initiatives planned for the year, including:

Please be sure to stay in touch with administrators and teachers throughout the school year—remember, we are all just one phone call or email away. We also hope you will access the district website and school and teacher web pages frequently. In closing, we look forward to seeing you at the many back-to-school events and activities scheduled this year at our schools…celebrating students for their academic and extra-curricular achievements make for the most memorable events! On behalf of all in our district, please accept my best wishes for a safe, happy, and healthy 2015-2016 school year!

Sincerely,

 Marie C. Cirasella, Ed. D.
